Notices and what to do

Every message R2 can show you, what it means and when it clears.

R2 tells you when something needs a person, and about nothing else. This page lists every notice it can raise, in the words it uses, with what each means, what R2 does on its own, what you should do, and when it clears.

Where notices appear

The Notifications strip at the top of the Summary page. One glance answers "is anything wrong?". A quiet list and an empty list look the same but mean different things, so the strip says which: Nothing needs you. Every mapped account is trading and clear of its limits. when all is well, and No account is set up yet, so R2 is not watching or trading anything. when nothing has been mapped.

Your phone, if Telegram is connected. Anything urgent goes there too, prefixed with its kind: [URGENT], [OK] when a problem has cleared, [TRADE], [CHECK] for the morning check, [REPORT] for the end of day, each with the time in UTC. Warnings arrive as R2 WARNING <account>: ..., critical ones as R2 CRITICAL <account>: .... The same fact is not repeated more often than every thirty minutes, and one fact across several accounts is one message.

R2's own window shows the same account list, and a reminder line across the top when the licence needs attention.

The x on a notice. Every line has an ×. It hides that line until it changes or a new day starts. The hiding is remembered in the browser you pressed it in and nowhere else: your phone's dashboard and R2's own window still show it. clear all hides every line for today the same way, and the count beside it (3 hidden) brings them back. A notice whose amount changes, or which returns on a new trading day, is shown again.

How notices are grouped. Eight accounts waiting on the same thing is one fact, not eight. When several accounts carry the same words the strip shows one line headed N accounts, and lists the names when you hover over it. A line with a button (Attach now, Update, Load data) stays on its own row. Warnings sit above everything else and keep their level word (WARNING, CRITICAL, BREACH) so they read as warnings.

Needs you now

These wait for a person. Nothing below them moves until you act.

Accounts waiting for an attach

N accounts are waiting for their books - Attach writes all N in one pass, closing NinjaTrader and starting it again [Attach now]

AccountName waits for BookName - waiting for you to press Attach now

The per-account line may add (has OtherBook) when a different book is on the account, or on NQ 09-26 and 1 more contract(s) that have rolled - it cannot see a bar until it moves to the front month when the contract has expired.

What it means. R2's plan names a book for this account that is not on it yet: a new account, a changed risk level or firm, a changed plan, or a contract roll.

What R2 does. It waits. Putting a book on an account means closing NinjaTrader and starting it again, and only a person can log NinjaTrader back in afterwards, so R2 never does this unattended, at the close or at any other time. Once a day it reminds you on your phone:

R2 wants to re-attach N accounts (BookName and others). It has to close NinjaTrader to do it, and NinjaTrader will ask you to log in again afterwards - it has no auto sign-in, so R2 will not do this while you are away. Press Attach strategies on the dashboard when you are ready.

What you do. When you are at the keyboard, press Attach now. A box explains what is about to happen and asks you to type the word ATTACH and press CONFIRM; a stray click never restarts NinjaTrader. Keep your hands off the mouse for two to four minutes and log in when NinjaTrader asks. The same job is behind Attach strategies on the bar at the bottom of R2's own window. While it runs the line reads attaching now… or attach requested, starting, and the button shows the step R2 is on.

When it clears. When every account has the book the plan names and it is trading.

If the attach stops the page says why in a box rather than going quiet:

NinjaTrader is at its login screen. Log in, then press Attach strategies - closing it logged out would wipe your workspace. Nothing was changed.

N account(s) are not connected in NinjaTrader, so their books could not bind to an account. Connect them, then press Attach strategies. Nothing was changed.

NinjaTrader would not close. Nothing was changed - press Attach strategies to try again.

NinjaTrader rejected N of the strategies R2 wrote. They will not survive a restart.

Each says its cure. Never close NinjaTrader while it is at its login window. For unconnected accounts, connect them under NinjaTrader's Connections menu, check they appear in the Accounts tab with a balance, and press the button again. For the last one, send NinjaTrader's own log to support.

NinjaTrader is asking to be logged in

R2 restarted NinjaTrader and it is asking to be logged in. Nothing trades until you do.

What it means. An attach has reopened NinjaTrader and it is at its login window. NinjaTrader has no remembered login, so every restart needs a person.

What R2 does. Waits for as long as it takes, repeating this to your phone every fifteen minutes. As soon as you are in it switches the books on.

What you do. Log in. Clears when NinjaTrader reports again.

A book is on the chart but will not start

N account(s) have no NinjaTrader connection, so their books cannot start: ...

Connected but not trading: AccountName, AccountName. Disconnect and reconnect each one in NinjaTrader - R2 starts the book itself after that.

What it means. NinjaTrader binds a strategy to its account when it loads the strategy. An account not connected then has nothing to bind to, and clicking cannot fix it.

What R2 does. For the second it first restarts NinjaTrader once more by itself, and says so. If that does not cure it, it keeps trying in the background.

What you do. In NinjaTrader's Connections menu, disconnect the named account and connect it again. R2 switches the book on by itself once you have.

A new version of R2

R2 1.2.3 is available - [Update]

What it means. R2 looked once, after the New York close, and found a newer version.

What R2 does. Nothing until you press the button. Then it downloads the update, checks every file against its signature, restarts itself, and is back on the new version in about half a minute. NinjaTrader is never closed for an update.

What you do. Press Update now when ready, or run the newer installer over the top.

Afterwards a plain line may remain, reading R2 1.2.3 applied - still waiting on the books, which go into NinjaTrader the moment NinjaTrader is closed and load at its next start, or the add-on, which R2 compiles at the New York close or at NinjaTrader's next start. Leave R2 running; the line goes when it has finished.

New books not yet in NinjaTrader

New books are installed but NOT yet in NinjaTrader - they go in the moment NinjaTrader is closed, and appear when it next starts. Leave R2 running.

An install ran while NinjaTrader was open. Do nothing except leave R2 running: it copies the books in when NinjaTrader closes. If R2 is not running then, the books never arrive.

Historical data

Historical data NinjaTrader is fetching the contracts your books need - 3 of 6 done · now MNQ 12-26

Historical data NQ 12-26 could not be fetched: - load it by hand in NinjaTrader: Tools > Historical Data [Load data]

A book on a contract with no bars is enabled and blind, so R2 asks NinjaTrader for the contracts its books need. The first line is progress: wait. The second is a contract it could not get: press Load data to ask again, or load it by hand in NinjaTrader.

Account health

Your firm's rules applied to what NinjaTrader reports. Amounts are written here as $N.

Drawdown floor

On the strip, when less than about a third of the allowed drawdown is left:

AccountName only $N to the drawdown floor

On your phone, in steps:

R2 WARNING AccountName: $N left of $M to the floor

R2 CRITICAL AccountName: only $N left of $M to the floor with 2 contracts open

R2 BREACH AccountName: headroom is -$N - BELOW the floor of $M

What it means. Headroom is how far the account can fall before the firm closes it. The warning comes with 40 percent of the allowed drawdown left, the critical one at 25 percent, the breach when the balance is already under the floor. For firms whose floor trails the daily close, R2 moves the floor the way the firm does.

What R2 does. Sizes every book so the floor is respected in the backtests, and reports. It does not close positions for you.

What you do. A warning is information. A critical one with contracts open is a reason to look at the position in NinjaTrader. A breach means the firm has, or will, close the account.

When it clears. When headroom rises back above the level that raised it; your phone gets an [OK] line.

Daily loss

R2 CRITICAL AccountName: daily loss $N of the $M limit - $L left

Today's loss has used three quarters of the firm's daily loss limit. R2 reports it; the books flatten at the session close on their own. Look at any open position; closing by hand is your call. Clears with the next trading day.

Consistency rule

AccountName consistency rule: needs $N more total profit before a payout

Some firms refuse a payout if one day made too large a share of the total. Nothing stops the account trading; the rule governs whether a payout is allowed. The end-of-day report lists these accounts under CONSISTENCY - where the rule, not the trading, is the obstacle, and the plan aims at that real target rather than the headline one. Do nothing. Clears when total profit passes the amount shown.

Days left, and payout

Not a notice, but on every account card: 34 sessions to pass (~2 months), 12 sessions to payout, target reached, or ready to withdraw, with a second line such as waiting on the firm's minimum days when a firm gate rather than profit decides it. The estimate comes from the median pace of the chosen book at its size and counts sessions - every weekday the market is open, including the ones the book sits out, about 21 to the month. It is an estimate, not a promise, and the card says so.

A position nobody is managing

AccountName holds 2 Long with NO strategy attached - nothing is managing that position

R2 WARNING AccountName: holds NQ 12-26 Long 2 with no order working that would close it - no stop, no target. Nothing will take it off at any price. Close it, or put a stop on it in NinjaTrader.

Close it, or put a stop on it, in NinjaTrader. R2 does not place orders outside its books.

Other position warnings

R2 WARNING AccountName: is set to NO hedging but holds long MNQ 12-26 x2 against short MES 12-26 x1 - opposite sides of correlated indices in one account, which this firm forbids. Close one side.

R2 STUCK AccountName: 3 contracts open but the connection is Disconnected

For the first, close one side in NinjaTrader; it repeats every thirty minutes while it stands. For the second, reconnect in NinjaTrader's Control Center; until then nothing can manage the position.

Strategy state

No strategy attached

AccountName no strategy attached

The account is managed, the plan names a book for it, and NinjaTrader has no strategy on it. Press Attach now on the notice at the top of the Summary page; R2 will not do it unattended. Clears when the book is on the account.

Attached but NOT trading

AccountName attached but NOT trading (Configure)

The word in brackets is the state NinjaTrader reports. NinjaTrader has the strategy but has not started it.

What R2 does. Clicks it on by itself within about ten seconds of noticing, provided nobody is using the mouse. If a proper attempt switches nothing on, R2 waits an hour before clicking again rather than hammering at NinjaTrader, and tells you what NinjaTrader's own log says.

What you do. Leave the mouse alone for a minute. If it is still off, the usual cure is that the account was not connected when NinjaTrader loaded: disconnect and reconnect it, or restart NinjaTrader and log in. Clears when the state reads Realtime.

Not traded by choice

AccountName not traded by choice: cannot reach 70% within a 5% loss ceiling; best safe is 48.0%

The figures are R2's own replay of the book through your firm's rules: "best safe is 48.0%" means the safest sizing that stays under the loss ceiling passes only 48% of the time.

Other reasons R2 can give after the colon:

target unreachable in this window

NO sizing stays under a 5% loss ceiling; safest available loses 12.0%

no book has a trustworthy history for this account

this account is pinned to BookName, which is not currently a candidate - see the book list above for why. Unpin it in Settings to let R2 choose, or re-run its backtest.

no book, alone or paired, meets this account's requirements

What it means. R2 looked at that account and decided not to trade it, most often because the firm's target cannot be reached within the loss limit your risk level allows. Nothing is broken and nothing is waiting; Attach cannot help.

What you do. To make R2 try again, change the risk level in Settings (which re-plans only that account) or press RE-PLAN on the Summary page to re-plan everything. Clears when a plan finds a book and size for it.

Waits for a book

AccountName waits for BookName - waiting for you to press Attach now

See Accounts waiting for an attach above.

Book on an old contract

R2 WARNING AccountName: its book is enabled but set to trade NQ 09-26, which is no longer the front month. It will stop seeing bars when that contract expires, if it still sees them now. Press Attach strategies to put them on the front month - it closes NinjaTrader, which will then ask you to log in again.

The contract has rolled. R2 names the front month from the calendar, never from what NinjaTrader happens to hold. Press Attach now; R2 moves the book. Repeats every twelve hours until done.

Book names a series R2 cannot confirm

R2 NOTE AccountName: its book names YM 12-26, and NinjaTrader has neither stored data for it nor filled on it here - so R2 cannot confirm it can see that series. It is not evidence the books have stopped: check whether they are still trading before acting. Press Load NT8 data on the Summary page to ask NinjaTrader for it.

A note, not a warning, and not sent as urgent. Check the Journal before acting, then press Load NT8 data.

Connection and heartbeat

NinjaTrader has not reported

R2 WARNING NinjaTrader: NinjaTrader is running but has told R2 nothing for 22 minutes. Everything the page shows about the accounts is that old. The usual cause is a login window after a restart: log in, and it starts reporting again.

In the morning check the same fact reads NinjaTrader is running but has not reported for 22 minutes - it may be asking you to log in. The risk watch's short form is NinjaTrader has not written a snapshot for 95s while the market is open.

What it means. NinjaTrader is open but the part of R2 inside it is silent. Every number on the page is a photograph of a world that has moved on. Nothing is trading.

What R2 does. Repeats this every fifteen minutes.

What you do. Look at NinjaTrader. If it is at its login window, log in. Never close it there. Clears when NinjaTrader reports again.

NinjaTrader not running

BAD NinjaTrader is NOT running

During the session R2 starts NinjaTrader itself if it finds it closed; it cannot log in for you. Start it if it is not up, log in, wait for the green connection light, and leave R2 running.

Connection lost

R2 CRITICAL: NinjaTrader is running but reports NO accounts at all while the market is open - every broker connection is down, so nothing can trade. Reconnect in the Control Center.

An internet blip can drop every firm connection for good; NinjaTrader does not always reconnect on its own, and the accounts vanish from its list. In the Control Center open Connections and connect each one by name, then check the Accounts tab shows every account with a balance. If the pill at the top of the page reads HALTED, the part of R2 inside NinjaTrader has stopped trading; open R2's own window and read its status line.

R2 itself

R2's watchdog restarts R2 within a couple of minutes if it ever stops. If you close it by hand it asks first: While R2 is closed nothing re-plans, re-attaches, or switches a book back on after a NinjaTrader restart, and no alert is sent. Strategies already running in NinjaTrader carry on by themselves. The morning check is also the proof that R2 is alive: a quiet phone otherwise means "all well" and "dead" equally.

Licence

A line across the top of R2's own window, such as That licence key belongs to a different machine. or Licence expires in 12 days. A key only ever gates setting up: R2 keeps managing the accounts it manages whatever the line says, and declines only to set up new ones. Email support with your key to have it moved to this machine.

Plan messages

A plan started by itself

Planning FirmName / Low - started by itself: risk changed on 2 accounts

Shown in R2's window after you change a risk level, firm or pinned book in Settings. R2 re-plans only the accounts you changed; every other account keeps its book and size. It takes minutes, not the half hour a full re-plan takes. If the new plan gives an account a book it does not have yet, an attach notice follows.

A new account

NinjaTrader is showing an account R2 has not seen before: AccountName. Should R2 manage it? You will be asked for its prop firm and its risk, and it is attached at the next NinjaTrader restart. [Manage it] [Leave it alone]

Manage it opens the wizard at the accounts step. Leave it alone sets it aside; you can change your mind in Settings.

What the plan decided

On the Plan page, per account: kept BookName: OtherBook would be worth $41.20 a session vs $38.90, not 15% more or switched from OldBook: $22.10 a session -> $38.90 with NewBook. An account keeps its current book unless a challenger is worth at least 15 percent more per session, because re-picking books often costs money.

A book is drifting

R2: BookName is drifting on 12345, 67890. - Re-analyse this book and its sizing? Reply YES BookName or NO BookName.

Sent to your phone once a day at most. R2 does nothing until you answer. Reply NO and it says understood - BookName stays as it is. I will not ask again for five trading days. Reply YES and it re-analyses the book and tells you the result.

Morning check

At 09:00 New York, before the open:
